Site Changes (2009 site)
As Rerun from What’s Happenin’ use to say – “Hey Hey Hey”
An updated is always nice, right? Sure it is.
I’ve made some recent changes to the front end of my website. Some of you may or may not have noticed exactly what the changes are, and why I’ve chosen to do so. Changes are as follows:
1) Completely removed all of the Jquery CSS Switch
2) Picked one theme and applied to entire site
Okay, not really that big of deal right? Wrong. You might have noticed the speed of my site pick up quite a bit, that’s really the big change. It was actually a mistake on my part. While using the Jquery CSS them switch plug-in is a very cool item for aesthetics… If you don’t use it correctly it will cause slow performance, just like my site was doing.
In most instances users with fast ISP’s probably didn’t even see a performance issue on my site, however even with “Com-Cast” I noticed issues. The correct way to use this plug-in in my options is to change typography, color, and minimal graphics througout your site.
The mistake on my part was I use one large .png file as part of the graphics for my site. When using the Jquery Plug-in, I was swapping these images. All of the images were 500kb + (transparent png’s). Okay Okay, what’s the point?? When you use this plug-in all of your style sheets are in the head of your markup, thus loading every time a page loads, regardless of the cookie setting by the plug-in and it’s other features.
— So I got rid of it. No real need for it anyways, just another bell and whistle. The bottom line is that the last thing I want is slow load or performance of my own personal site. At the time it was cool, but over time I started to notice these performance issues and linked it back to that plug-in. This in now way what-so-ever is a bash towards the creator of that plug-in, it’s really a mistake on my part. The plug-in is really cool if used correctly!
That’s it for the updates, now I have one theme that was voted by decision of fellow designers of mine to be the best choice. For those of you who never even used the style switch plug-in — you’re probably like “oh Atom changed his site again”! Not the case, just implemented markup and style that was already in place
In other updates, I’ve got some really cool portfolio pieces coming to my site, I just cannot post them at this time as they are under contract. Soon Soon! Promise.
